Another opportunity to latch onto a frayed lifeline with the team’s slim playoff hopes extinguishing.
So, now it’s on to the Roughriders. A three-win team vs. a six-win team. A quick look at the stats shows the Redblacks are better in both points for and points against than the Riders. So why the three-win difference? A big reason: An inability to finish games. Saskatchewan has won six of its nine games that have come down to the final three minutes; Ottawa has won just two of 11 games in the same situation. Digest that: Two of 11.
In the loss to B.C., Crum completed 19 passes for 233 yards and rushed for three touchdowns. But it wasn’t enough as the Redblacks blew a late 16-point lead. There was a missed field goal from 50 yards and 120-yard touchdown return by Terry Williams. With 16 seconds left, the Lions scored another touchdown.
“They’re a very talented team,” said Redblacks head coach Bob Dyce. “No matter who they’ve had at quarterback, they’ve been able to throw the ball vertically. Defensively, I know a couple of guys may be down, but they’re probably one of the fastest defences out there. They’re an extremely physical group, we’re going to have to raise our level to move those guys around. And , anytime Mario is back there, they have a chance to score.
