became mayor on Wednesday urging Torontonians to join with her to overcome the city’s challenges and foster inclusion and equity.
“Let’s build a Toronto that is more safe, affordable and caring, where everyone belongs,” Chow told a packed, joyous council chamber after making the declaration of office.The ceremony featured First Nations and African-Canadian land acknowledgments and a performance of “Rise Up,” Parachute Club’s 1980s anthem, by singer Lorraine Segato.
