For the second straight game, Edmonton blinked first, letting a 2-1 lead slip away by giving up three-straight goals in the second period. This time it was a natural hat-trick from Jonathan Marchessault that sunk their ship. It was an uncharacteristic sag by a team that usually plays its best hockey with its back against the wall. But Edmonton started the second period on its back foot couldn’t get the saves they needed from Stuart Skinner and by the end of the second intermission all that was left for 18,347 angry fans to do was blame the referees.

Woodcroft’s reluctance to start Campbell in one of these games, with Skinner lugging around a sub .900 save percentage for the entire series, will haunt him all summer.
