Additional reinforcement will be used to shore up a concrete column with cracks found at Ohio State's new inpatient hospital tower under construction.

Ohio State spokesman Ben Johnson said Friday that the cracking was a result of a compression issue on one concrete column, and the problem appears to be isolated to a single column. There are more than 150 other concrete or steel columns on that level of the building, Johnson said. Construction on other portions of the new tower can continue while the steel work is paused. However, the medical center postponed a previously planned ceremony to mark the installation of the final structural beams on the new inpatient hospital.
