Gamblers in Ohio placed $639 million worth of bets in February in the second month of legal sports gambling in Ohio, netting the state another $8.3 million in tax revenue.
In February, players used just over $59 million in promotion credits. So, apps took in about $562 million in real cash bets.
Combined, and after accounting for voided wagers, the betting apps ended up with $82 million of taxable revenue, down from $205 million in January.Neither physical sportsbooks nor gaming kiosks gave out promotional credits, according to the Casino and Lottery commissions. Physical sportsbooks found in casinos, racinos and other locations also saw a dip in bets placed, according to the Ohio Casino Control Commission’s report.
The state’s 14 physical sportsbooks, like the ones at the JACK Cleveland Casino and MGM Northfield Park, brought in $17.7 million in bets, down from $23 million in January. Combined the 14 facilities had just over $1 million in taxable revenue, down from $3.2 million in January.Betting kiosks had a better February, and brought in $973,000 in bets this month, up from $850,000 in January. The kiosks paid out $910,000 in winnings, up from $722,000 in January, so revenue declined.
These kiosks brought in $62,000 of revenue, down from $116,000 in January. This is despite 866 business hosting kiosks, up from 772 in January.Of the $1.75 billion wagered on sports in Ohio so far, 97.6% of it was placed on mobile apps. Just 2.3% of bets were placed at sportsbooks, and kiosksOhio lawmakers created three kinds of sports gambling. There is Las Vegas-style sportsbooks, mobile-betting apps and gaming kiosks.
