Louis Truehill was shot and killed October 3 on Kirkham Way, police said.
OAKLAND — A suspect has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the city’s 100th homicide of the year, police say.
Khalil Attiba, 40, was charged with murdering Louis Truehill, who was shot and killed Oct. 3 on the 1300 block of Kirkham Way in West Oakland. Police said Attiba is confined to a wheelchair and shot Truehill in the “lower extremities” during a disagreement “regarding money being owed for previous narcotic transactions.” Truehill tried in vain to disarm Attiba, who shot him one last time before leaving the area, police allege.
Attiba was arrested by U.S. Marshalls two days later at his home on Canning Street in Oakland, police say. He allegedly identified himself on surveillance video of the shooting, but insisted that he had lawfully defended himself from an attack. In addition to the murder charge, Attiba faces felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possessing a firearm as a felon. He has not yet entered a plea and remains in Santa Rita Jail on a no-bail hold, police say.
Attiba was paralyzed in a 2010 West Oakland shooting that killed 26-year-old Walter Harris, authorities said.
