The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig-alert Wednesday closing at least one lane and an off-ramp of Interstate 580 in response to unspecified police activity, authorities said.
Shortly after 8:20 p.m., officers responded to an incident that appeared to involve city streets and I-580 lanes, and responded by issuing the alert closing the No. 4 or right-most eastbound lane west of Seminary Avenue, as well as the Seminary Avenue off-ramp.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area, but eastbound traffic began backing up at least to the 35th Avenue exit. CHP Golden Gate Division Officer Andrew Barclay said that Sig-alert and closure came after a partial and temporary shutdown of eastbound I-580 lanes at High Street to allow officers to search for incident-related evidence.
Oakland police also responded to the incident, but did not respond to a request for information about a possibly related injury or fatal shooting scene.
