NYPD, Sanitation conducts sweep of migrants camped on street outside NYC hotel
The NYPD and Department of Sanitation removed the last of the migrants camped outside of the Watson Hotel in Manhattan on February 1, 2023.About 25 to 30 people had been camping outside of the hotel since the weekend.The migrants outside of the hotel were asked to move to the new facility at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal in Red Hook.Migrants and activists were attempting to protest the city’s transfers when police officers came in and ordered everyone to leave.
One migrant in the group who remained steadfast against being shipped to the hangar-like Red Hook shelter said he didn’t know what to do.According to City Hall, almost all of the men decided to go to the Red Hook facility or other locations.Christopher Sadowski Levy said “most” of the migrants decided to board buses headed towards the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal, while six chose to head to other cities.
