City Councilman Robert Holden is demanding the city defund Christine Quinn’s nonprofit after her staffer marched in a contentious pro-Palestine rally.
Democrat Robert Holden called on the city to defund Christine Quinn's homeless service nonprofit after staffer Emilia Vieira marched in a pro-Palestine rally.
The group, which is the city’s largest shelter operator for families with children, raked in just under $116 million in taxpayer dollars for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2022,Councilman Robert Holden said that the city should withhold taxpayer funding from WIN until it takes “meaningful action” against Vieira.Quinn condemned Vieira for participating in the rally, but declined to say whether the staffer would be punished for her attendance.
“WIN stands arm-in-arm with Israel and the Jewish people and strongly supports Israel’s right to defend itself against a vile terrorist organization like Hamas,” Quinn said.“While we think it was in extremely poor taste to attend this rally in the aftermath of the Hamas attacks, in America people have a right to engage in non-violent protest on their own time.
