The city Parks Department has come under fire for awarding $40 million in tree service contracts to a firm convicted of insurance fraud.

last October, the Dragonetti Brothers admitted to evading more than $1.1 million in insurance premiums between 2017 and 2019.

Dragonetti Brothers Landscaping pled guilty to Insurance Fraud and the company’s principals, Nicholas and Vito Dragonetti, also pled guilty to offering a false instrument for filing.Krishnan also claimed Dragonetti’s firm mistakenly cut down a healthy London Plane tree in his district valued at $246,000.

Another $7.6 million, two-year contract running through 2024 is for street tree planting in Manhattan.insisted “we are constantly monitoring are contractors” but is not going to suspend contracts that are already in place with Dragonetti.“We believe it’s in the best interest of New Yorkers to complete these contracts so as not to further disrupt citywide tree pruning and planting.”“I can assure you we are taking this incent very seriously,” Donoghue said.
