'If the city can cancel the rodeo for public health, isn't this an issue of public safety.' Protests start to grow as NRA convention begins on Friday
HOUSTON, Texas -- On Thursday, people started to make their way to the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston for the annual meetings of the National Rifle Association .
"If the city can cancel the rodeo for public health, isn't this an issue of public safety?" said Neil Aquino, one of the people who showed up to protest. "We're going to have enough officers to deal with whatever we need to deal with immediately," said Houston Police Chief Troy Finner, who showed a map of designated protest and counter-protest zones outside the convention center."There comes a point in time when people have to realize it's disrespectful to be talking about guns when 19 kids have been killed," Turner said.
ABC13 has reached out multiple times to Governor Greg Abbott's office to find out his plans, but we have not heard back.
