NPR is leaving Twitter and suspending activity on its 52 feeds, which have millions of followers, after it was inaccurately labeled "government-funded...

That was NPR CEO John Lansing responding to Twitter’s recent decision to inaccurately label NPR as “U.S. state-affiliated media,” the same language it uses for propaganda outlets in Russia and China, and later “government-funded media.” The most recent “government-funded” designation is still misleading, NPR says.

NPR announced Wednesday that it was suspending all activity on its 52 official Twitter feeds, which have millions of followers, after the Elon Musk-owned platform designated the news group “government-funded media,” a label that now appears on NPR’s Twitter profile and on every one of its tweets. NPR journalists and staffers will be allowed to decide if they want to use Twitter for their own personal use, the CEO added.
