PHOENIX — The verdict in Donald Trump's hush money case convicting him of 34 felony charges came less than six months before the November election.
When 12News asked the Arizona Attorney General's Office if that Arizona law would apply to Trump, a spokesperson declined to comment. "In the state system, there may be prohibitions for state officials running for office, but in the federal system, we look to the US Constitution for guidance, and the US Constitution does not prohibit an individual with a felony conviction from running for President of the United States," Paul Charlton, a former US Attorney, said.
