The provincial government estimates it will spend nearly $4 million as a result of a global privacy breach that resulted in hundreds of thousands of Nova Scotians’ personal information being stolen.with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday – a common practice following the annual release of its public accounts.

“They did, however, say that they had destroyed all data they obtained that related to government agencies or police forces and they have therefore never released the province’s data,” Callow said, adding “that should be taken with a pinch of salt.”While the Nova Scotia government hasn’t given a penny to the ransomware operation, it has already spent nearly $3 million as a result of the breach.
A spokesperson for the Department of Finance said the province’s projected cost of the data breach remains the same as indicated in Adair’s report.- Brett Callow"As of today, there are 2,347 organizations known to have been impacted. The individuals total 64 million and the total cost of this could be in excess of 10 billion," Callow said.
