Here’s how post-tropical storm Philippe could affect you this Thanksgiving weekend | SaltWireAs tropical storm Philippe bears down on Nova Scotia, apple growers are again hoping they can avoid any significant damage just two weeks after fears of what might have happened with hurricane Lee.
She said the later in the season storms hit the better in terms of the overall crop, but the late-season varieties are just as susceptible and “no storms at all would be preferable.” Growers have been fortunate that the weather in September was not as wet as July, so pickers have been able to get full days in the orchards, she said. The size and colour of the apples have been good, so growers are hopeful for a good crop if they can avoid weather damage.
