Not all the bids were successful
The spending of £45,000 by the council covering Arnold on failed Levelling Up bids has been branded a "waste" by some of those living there. New figures have shown that councils across Nottinghamshire have spent a total of around £830,000 submitting bids to the Government's Levelling Up Fund.
But some councils have spent significant sums across both rounds of the Levelling Up Fund without having had any investment back from it. Chief among them is Gedling Borough Council, which spent £45,214 submitting bids to both rounds of the fund and was unsuccessful both times. But Peter Phillips, 53, said: "You have got to speculate to accumulate and even though this sounds like a lot of money, you wouldn't really be able to do much with it to improve Arnold. You'd have to spend a lot more than that and that's why the council obviously went and tried for this funding, it's a shame they didn't get it but they needed to try."
"However we recognise there are costs associated with bids which is why across both rounds we provided more than £20 million to help councils develop bids." Below is the amount spent by each Nottinghamshire council on both rounds of the Levelling Up Fund bid, in order of the amount spent, along with the amount of investment they got back.
