There was something odd about the front-seat passenger in the old Saturn whizzing along New York’s Long Island Expressway one day this month. A Suffolk County highway patrolman pulled it over for a look.
Sure enough, the guy slumped in the seat wearing a T-shirt and hoodie with sunglasses and a cap pulled low had little to say. He was a dummy, propped up to try to make it legal for the Saturn’s driver, James Britt, to use a high-occupancy-vehicle lane and beat the traffic.
