Acting on inaccurate information, two officers woke a sleeping family while searching for a missing girl

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THESE SALTWIRE VIDEOSCORNER BROOK, N.L. — The two police officers who entered the wrong home in Mount Moriah while searching for a missing youth in June 2022 did not commit any criminal offence, concludes an independent investigation into the incident.

Before Pike and her boyfriend were awakened from their slumber, the police had already awakened Pike’s 11-year-old daughter, who had been asleep in a room on the floor below. The officers asked the child if the missing youth was in the home, but the young girl had no idea who they were referring to. While driving on the street, she thought she saw the youth inside a residence on the street. The worker parked outside the residence and texted the youth, stating she was outside the house and asked the youth to come outside so she could do a visual check on her.

Cortney Pike, her daughter Nevaeh Pike and partner Andrew Dunphy were awoken by two RCMP officers who had entered their home without them knowing in the early morning hours of June 5, 2022 during a search for a missing youth who was not in the home.

When Dunphy went to check things out, he encountered the two officers coming down the hall toward their bedroom, asking where the missing youth was. The couple both said they didn’t know who the girl was. “ stated her daughter no longer feels safe in her own home because of this incident,” King wrote in his report, which does not use Pike’s name and refers to her as Affected Person 1 .

“ was shocked when he learned of the subsequent complaint because, again, he thought they were understanding.”
