North Ridgeville's Zack Barnhart, left, celebrates his second-quarter touchdown run with lineman Riley Cooper on Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, against Olmsted Falls. Barnhart scored twice in the Rangers' 43-17 win.NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio — A botched punt nearly turned North Ridgeville’s fortunes for the worse early Friday night against Olmsted Falls.
“It hyped the whole team up,” senior linebacker Austin DeShazo said. “Everyone was so hype on the sideline, and the offense built on that.”, began their Southwestern Conference opener by stopping No. 20 Olmsted Falls with two quick three-and-outs before being pinned back on their heels. They gave up a tying touchdown run to Falls senior quarterback Jimmy Rosol Jr. late in the second quarter on a fourth-and-goal inside the 1, but consider that the defense’s only blemish of the night.
“In the SWC, you can’t enjoy anything for very long,” Morgan said. “The good thing is we’re healthy coming out of it and we got a solid win against a great opponent.” At 6-foot-2 and 230 pounds, Fahmawi burst through the line of scrimmage for a few of his own plays. He also freed up senior linebackers DeShazo, Carson Madis and Co. to hound the Bulldogs’ ballcarriers.
North Ridgeville allowed them to move the chains only three times. Down 24-10 in the third, Logan Connelly’s 92-yard kickoff return provided a spark. The Rangers gained 420 yards, including 292 on the ground, as a team. Barnhart took the bulk of the carries, 16 for 83 yards and his two scores. Steinmetz provided a team-high 161 yards from scrimmage, including 112 on the ground, while Miller completed 11 of 16 passes for 128 yards.
