Submarine-launched missiles are harder to detect and could pose a significant threat to South Korea and U.S. forces in the region.

On Tuesday, responding to reports of the missile launch, White House spokesperson Jen Psaki urged North Korea to refrain from further “provocation” and added that the U.S. was open to dialogue with Pyongyang over its weapons programs.by North Korea last month, Tuesday’s launch is banned under a series of resolutions passed by the United Nations Security Council . According to Reuters, the U.S. and U.K. plan to raise North Korea’s latest test during a U.N. Security Council meeting on Wednesday.

Ms are dangerous as they offer a “so-called” second-strike capability in an event where a country’s land-based missile systems are decimated by a nuclear strike. Additionally, since they are carried by submarines that travel underwater, they can be extremely hard to detect.
