Ecology Action Centre calls for immediate implementation of Coastal Protection Act | SaltWireThat’s the goal of the Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat following a report presented by the Atlantic Indigenous Economic Development Integrated Research Program at the Millbrook Heritage and Cultural Centre on Wednesday morning, Oct. 25.

“It's an educational opportunity for Mi’kmaq First Nations to share our history, language and culture with those who live here, as well as with tourists visiting our territory. It's also an opportunity for reconciliation, as it provides visitors and tourists a chance to work and be enlightened by indigenous history,” he said, “To paraphrase the former chair of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, Justice Murray Sinclair, ‘education is key to reconciliation.

Heather Stevens, the manager of the Millbrook Heritage and Cultural Centre, has been feeling the increase in interest in Mi’kmaq culture and history. She has seen over 50,000 people enter the Centre door this year, up from last year when she saw 45,000 people. “Action speaks volumes, and it’s an important part of how we move forward collectively,” Gloade said, adding, “Over the last few years, we've seen a significant increase in the demand for sharing information and working collaboratively together. And that's an important part of reconciliation and moving forward.”
