CIF regionals: Willow Glen reliever Alanna Clincy shuts down powerful Casa Grande in NorCal opener.
Willow Glen pitcher Alanna Clincy, shown here in a CCS playoff game last week, had a huge game Tuesday as the Rams rallied to beat Casa Grande in the first round of the CIF NorCal Division II regional. SAN JOSE — It didn’t look good for Willow Glen early on. Down 2-0 before even coming to bat. And then facing another scoring threat from Casa Grande in the second, one out with a runner on second.
“I’m very happy for the girls, very happy for the seniors to have the opportunity to do this,” Willow Glen coach Don Spingola said. “We’re a good hitting team, I don’t think two runs is anything for our team to score.” said sophomore third baseman and cleanup hitter Sienna Wilson, who hit a two-run triple to put the Rams ahead to stay.In the top of the fifth, Clincy ran into her only difficulty. Casa Grande had the bases loaded with two out when a 2-2 pitch from Clincy got past catcher McKenna Campbell and the runner on third broke for the plate.
