The Calgary Flames are about to open training camp with six key pieces on expiring contracts and while Conroy isn’t claiming that’s an ideal scenario, the rookie general manager isn’t in panic mode.

The Flames hit the links Wednesday for their annual charity golf tournament and, not surprisingly, the chatter on the fairways and greens was more focused on paperwork than prep work for the upcoming campaign. That’s a lot of uncertainty in one lineup, a conundrum Conroy inherited when he was promoted to GM in late May.

Which is why Wednesday was filled with what-ifs. The first day of a training camp won’t be any different.
