Thompson takes home its first state championship in 23 years after winning consecutive titles in 1998 and 1999. “I knew my team would get on to give them a chance,” she said. “Don’t be too aggressive and give them a chance. It was going to be a tight game anyway, we weren’t going to blow them out. I couldn’t score without my teammates. Without the bunts and the sacrifices, I couldn’t have been able to do it.”
“It was crazy, I was like, ‘we’re up two with two outs, this about to be the best pitch I throw,’” she said. “Probably wasn’t my best pitch, she hit it, but we got our outfield back there and we just won state.”
