Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, won Washington, D.C.'s Republican primary election Sunday night, claiming a rare complete victory over Trump.
Republican presidential candidate former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley speaks at a campaign event, Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, in Bloomington, Minn. The party says 2,035 voters participated in the three day primary and all of Washington's 19 delegates and 16 alternate delegates will be awarded to Haley.
In a statement reacting to the election results, the Trump campaign's press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, dubbed Haley as the "Queen of the Swamp." Tonight’s results in Washington, D.C. reaffirm the object of President Trump’s campaign — he will drain the swamp and put America first," Leavitt said. "While Nikki has been soundly rejected throughout the rest of America, she was just crowned Queen of the Swamp by the lobbyists and DC insiders that want to protect the failed status quo. The swamp has claimed their queen.
Haley has vowed to stay in the race through Super Tuesday, on which 15 states and their delegates will be up for grabs and potentially decided whether Trump effectively becomes the nominee a full four months from the convention.
