Well, erstwhile observers of retail, before you start to ready a charity benefit for Jeff Bezos and write the Amazon epitaph, let’s put some things in perspective. And the new Amazon grocery startup? It’s entirely possible that was the plan all along, to learn the grocery business by buying Whole Foods and then using that knowledge to build out a truly scaleable supermarket chain more consistent with Amazon’s mass approach to the marketplace.
