The Cleveland Browns will face perhaps the NFL’s top team, the San Francisco 49ers, at home Sunday without quarterback Deshaun Watson, who will miss a second straight game because of an injured right shoulder.
The Watson trade signaled the end of Mayfield’s tenure in Cleveland. He was traded to the Carolina Panthers that July in whatserving an 11-game suspension He missed an Oct. 1 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Cleveland because of what has been described as a bruised rotator cuff in his right shoulder, suffered during a Sept. 24 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Stefanski initially called it Watson’s decision not to play against the Ravens despite being medically cleared. General Manager Andrew Berry later called it a mutual decision. The Browns are coming off their bye week.
Mayfield and the Buccaneers will take a 3-1 record into their late-afternoon game at home against the Lions, who are 4-1. Mayfield is the NFL’s seventh-rated passer, putting him 11 spots ahead of Watson.
