Nick Taylor made history with his win at the RBC Canadian Open.
Among those on hand as Taylor became the first Canadian in 69 years to win his national open was Newfoundlander and Crowd Marshall John Brookes.Brookes describes the experience as incredible and emotional as strangers started high-fiving each other and the crowd spontaneously broke out into “O Canada.”
He was there for crowd control, but admits to keeping one eye on the putt. He says when he made the shot, “the place absolutely exploded.”Brookes was also there to witness fellow golf star Adam Hadwin get slammed to the ground by security as he opened a bottle of champagne to spray on Taylor in celebration—it’s a moment that has since gone viral.
He says security didn’t realize that Hadwin was a PGA Tour player and tackled him to the ground. “I guess he got up and he went over and congratulated Nick Taylor” says Brookes “it was quite a moment.”
