New Mexico's governor signed an order to allocate $10 million for a new reproductive health care clinic on the state's Texas border and about 100 miles from its Arizona border — 2 states with restricted abortion access.
The executive order also directs New Mexico's Department of Health to create a plan to ensure abortion medications are available in public health clinics, broadening access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion, in rural and underserved parts of the state.
Out-of-state abortion providers, including from Texas and Mississippi, have expressed interest in opening clinics in New Mexico in light of Roe's overturning, the Post reported.
“These efforts to restrict access to reproductive health services from other states may lead more individuals to seek services from New Mexico healthcare providers,” Grisham said in a video call about the executive order, the“The southern part of New Mexico has lacked access to the full spectrum of reproductive healthcare for generations," Kayla Herring, Director of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains, added in the press release.

In Mexico, families and activists urge more work to end disappearancesFamilies of missing persons and human rights groups in Mexico called on Tuesday's International Day of Victims of Forced Disappearances for stronger measures to fight kidnappings, including bringing more perpetrators to justice. Progress on one of Mexico's most notorious cases of forced kidnappings appeared to play out earlier this month as a former attorney general was arrested and charged in connection with the 2014 disappearance of 43 student teachers presumed dead. But with 52,000 unidentified bodies and 105,000 people reported missing - 5,000 of those added since last May, according to official data - activists say much more needs to be done.
