NGRP, in previous years, has noticed increased traffic on the first day of school in pick-up and drop-off areas. Drivers are encouraged to slow down in those areas and to plan to give themselves more time to arrive at their destinations. With the summer months giving drivers time to become unaccustomed to considering school buses and school zones, NGRP is reminding drivers that in school zones, the speed limit is 30 km/h when children are present when the speed limit of the road is 50 km/h. When the speed limit is higher than 50 km/h, drivers must reduce speed to a maximum of 50 km/h when children are present.Drivers are also reminded to stop at all school buses that have their stop signs out and have flashing red lights.
NGRP is also reminding parents to be cautious of what they post online and limit what personal information is shared about their children and the schools they go to.
