Breaking News
Last month, it was reported that Flax Medical Centre in Ardoyne handed back its contract to the Department of Health which meant that unless a new GP was secured the practice, which provides health care for over 3,000 people, would close.
The practice is located in the Flax Centre on Ardoyne Avenue and was established by Dr Tan in the early 1990s.In a statment this morning, the Department confirmed the practice will be taken over by Oldpark Group Practice, who alongside Flax Medical Centre, will relocate to a new premises next month. A spokesperson for the DoH said: "The Department of Health can confirm that a new GP contractor has been appointed to provide GP services to the patients of Flax Medical Centre in Belfast with effect from 1 January 2023."Patients of Flax Medical Centre will automatically be registered with the new practice so they do not need to take any action. Patients will receive a letter in the coming days confirming details of their new GP practice.
"From 16 January, both Oldpark Group Practice and Flax Medical Centre will relocate to new purpose built premises at Everton Centre and be renamed Eden Park Medical Practice."For all the latest news, visit the Belfast Live homepage here. To sign up to our FREE newsletters, see here.
