Now it’s the latest in a series of activities she’s initiated in Middleton that get people outdoors and active.

“He said, ‘What’s that?’ I said, ‘I don’t know,’” she replied. “I said, ‘we could get some binoculars and some bird watching books as part of our free equipment loan program and encourage people to go out and find their local birds.’ He said, ‘Okay, let’s do it.’ We just made it up.”“I looked up local birds and we made a bingo card with local birds,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter where they see them. But we want to encourage them to use the green spaces locally, get out and walk, enjoy nature, not have any kind of financial barrier, because we have the equipment if they want to borrow it. Just enjoy it.”Wetlands park “They have put in trails. Eventually there will be about one-kilometre of trails all the way through. It’s about a three-acre piece of property,” she said. “They just put in a really nice walkway — boardwalk type walkway — and they did a walk on the weekend. They did invite the public and CARP put that on.”

In an effort to get more people outside and active, the Town of Middleton has introduced Bird Watch Bingo — a free, family-friendly game that is both entertaining and educational. When participants spot a bird on the bingo card, they mark it off. - Carole Morris-UnderhillFor bird watchers, the new park will be the perfect spot to go with the borrowed binoculars and their Bird Watch Bingo cards.

“Middleton is really lucky for such a small town to have the three, now the wetlands will be four, parks,” Fenton said. “And the rec department has always had the philosophy that things should be free and accessible to everybody.”
