“Absolutely,” Sarandos replied. “The ‘Squid Game’ universe has just begun.”
And keep in mind, Squid Game is about 3-4x as big as The Witcher ever was, destroying viewership records for the service, or really any streaming service, across the globe.So, that says to me that Squid Game season 2 is probably the bare minimum Netflix is planning. Of course, this would be a difference situation than The Witcher.
And yet, I would not be shocked if Netflix also greenlit spin-offs or even anime series relating to Squid Game , despite none of that being announced yet. Hell, I might even guess they could do a reality competition show based on it . Netflix subscriber growth is slowing to their stock’s detriment, so any time they do land a mega-hit, you can bet they are going to attempt to milk it for all its worth.
Regardless, I would expect a blitz of Squid Game announcements coming in the next few months here, and we’ll see what their grand “universe” plan might be.
