It was recently revealed that the upcoming Twilight television series is going to be an animated adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's novel, Midnight Sun, which means the show will go far beyond a classic remake. Though the Twilight franchise has been fairly inactive since the fifth and final movie premiered in 2012, the vampire romance story is making an unexpected return on television.
Netflix Adapting Midnight Sun Avoids Just Entirely Remaking Twilight Why Remaking Twilight Is A Bad Idea Close Adapting Midnight Sun is a great move for the franchise because it avoids a basic Twilight remake. Although Meyer's story is beloved, its big-screen adaptation was not released that long ago. Most audiences have a solid memory of it. In this way, simply reworking it for television feels unnecessary.
While remaking Twilight would not have been the worst decision, it certainly would not have been as appealing. Since the original Twilight movies were only made a decade ago, viewers are likely to be attached to the original cast and story. By simply remaking the movies into a TV show, Twilight was risking isolating its viewers by rewriting history with a new cast and style.
The Midnight Sun TV adaptation will be written and executive produced by Sinead Daly, who has previously worked on Tell Me Lies and The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
