Legacy media will need to change their tactics in order to retain top talent, particularly as they launch their own streaming services. Netflix and tech giants like Amazon and Apple have greater capacity to give major talent large payouts upfront, but traditional media companies are unlikely to be able or willing to match. For example, ABC paid Shonda Rhimes about $10 million a year to generate what Rhimes herself called arevenue stream.
