The Cornhusker volleyball team will play Omaha Wednesday night at Memorial Stadium with over 90,000 fans expected to attend.
NCAA volleyball matches typically take place in arenas seating 15-20,000 fans. But Wednesday night, over 90,000 fans are expected to turn out when the University of Nebraska hosts a volleyball match against Omaha at Lincoln's Memorial Stadium, the regular home of the University of Nebraska football team."This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," sophomore middle hitter Bekka Allick said at a before the match Tuesday.
The current world record for attendance at a women's sporting event is 91,648, set during a UEFA Women's Champions League soccer semifinal in 2022 Meanwhile, the record for most people to see an NCAA regular season volleyball match is 16,833 when Wisconsin played Florida last September at a standard arena. Nebraska had previously held that record, to get it back, they're opening the highest-capacity structure on campus and in the state: Memorial Stadium.
