Frustration and uncertainty are the defining words of our time. The political party that both captures peoples’ anxieties and promises to concretely meet their goals could swing support in a way that might seem unlikely today. The Liberals did this in 2015. Can the NDP place itself as a more likely contender for the next election? Conventions can offer the clues. New Democrats from across Canada will gather Oct. 13-15 in Hamilton, Ont.
There is an opening now for the NDP, as a party of the left, to capture the frustration that so many Canadians feel—the sense that things are getting worse—and to pose constructive, progressive solutions that can make life better for the majority. The NDP already calls out the dead-end offers of the Conservative Party and the dithering of the Liberal Party.
