The ship that Trump called a “70,000-ton message of hope” has been sitting mostly empty
visited the Norfolk Navy Station for the departure ceremony of USNS Comfort, the hospital ship bound for New York in an effort to relieve pressure from city hospitals overrun by patients with the coronavirus. The Comfort could soon see an uptick in patients. The Department of Defense said Friday the ship will now accept asymptomatic patients before having a negative coronavirus test,NBC News. "Each patient will still be screened by temperature and a short questionnaire," the agency said. Like other overrun hospitals, Dowling’s facilities have had to adapt idle spaces like lobbies and conference rooms into hospital wards to accommodate the continued spread of the virus, which had infected over 57,000 in New York City as of Friday.
