This collaboration expands research into the practicality of CO2-derived fuel for rocket launches.
In recent years, there’s been a push to make rocket launches more sustainable — with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of space exploration.A Scottish company wants to make rocket fuel from unrecyclable plastic wasteRecently, the company partnered with New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering to explore and make environment-friendly rocket fuel for launches. If successful, the technique would fuel NASA’s next-generation rockets.
This technology “uses a process similar to photosynthesis to convert CO2 into high-performance fuels and chemicals,” the press release mentioned. This means that their production process removes more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it emits, contributing to a net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. This collaboration is supported by NASA’s Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer award.

The world's most prolific CO2-fixing enzyme is slowly getting betterNew research has found that rubisco -- the enzyme that fuels all life on Earth -- is not stuck in an evolutionary rut after all. The largest analysis of rubisco ever has found that it is improving all the time -- just very, very slowly. These insights could potentially open up new routes to strengthen food security.

Cars with Built-In Filters Capture CO2 as You DriveA company has developed cars with built-in filters that capture carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as you drive. The filters convert about 20 grams of CO2 during 20 laps around a track, but it's unclear if the system can significantly reduce vehicle emissions.
