Speculation continues to mount as to whether or not former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will seek reelection to keep her long-held seat in Congress.

If Pelosi opts-out of another bid for the office she's maintained since 1987, this means her California constituents will be seeing a new face in Washington, D.C., next year, and a political shake-up for Congressional Democrats. The speaker emerita has yet to reveal her 2024 election intentions, which may prompt a run by other Golden State Democrats hoping to represent San Francisco, one of the most liberal cities in the U.S.

If Pelosi, 83, decides against seeking reelection until the last-minute, or by the Dec. 8 filing deadline, then would-be candidates will have an additional five days to file. For context, the Democratic party's official nominating process opens in mid-August. Pelosi's team has already fundraised $3.5 million in the first six months of this year for her potential reelection efforts, despite her continued silence about her future on Capitol Hill. While this could be an indicator that she will not be retiring, it may also be a power-play by Pelosi to show-off her continued popularity among political donors.

And, according to some political analysts, Pelosi's favorability could allow her to help boost the campaigns of others in her party if she does decide to run, and later resign to trigger a special election to fill her seat.
