Paislee Shultis was found in the space under a staircase in her grandfather's home, reports say.
Police suspected in 2019 that Paislee had been abducted by her non-custodial biological parents, Kimberly Cooper, 33, and Kirk Shultis Jr., 32. Although police had received tips about the home in the past, the residents denied knowing where the child was.
When officers arrived with a search warrant Monday, the homeowner again denied knowing where the child was, police say. But about an hour into the search, Det. Erik Thiele spotted something suspicious with the staircase, the Daily Freeman reports. Cooper was charged with custodial interference and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors. Kirk Shultis Jr. and his father, Kirk Shultis Sr., both were charged with custodial interference, a felony, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
