Beverly, an American bison, gave birth to her first calf on Thursday.
Bison calves are born with an orange coat and weigh between 30 and 70 pounds. According to the zoo, baby bison stay with their moms for about a year, are herbivores, and can live for about 20 years.Born on March 13, the mammal was the first of its kind born at the zoo in 10 years.Capybaras are the world’s largest rodent, growing between 60 and 175 pounds.
The Cape May County Parks and Zoo are open and free to the public. Park hours are from 7 a.m. until the evening. Zoo hours are 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
