The former Franklin standout was tragically killed in a car accident
on Monday afternoon in Franklin, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office announced.
Heslop was named the NJ.com Track Athlete of the Year for both his 2018 and 2019 outdoor and indoor seasons. He won eight NJSIAA Meet of Champions titles and is undeniably one of the best sprinters the Garden State has ever seen. Heslop ran the 100 and 200 the Kennesaw State University Invitational in April and the 300 at the RADD Collegiate Last Chance Meet in February.
Reactions regarding the news are pouring in and the N.J. track and field community is heartbroken. Here’s what opposing coaches had to say about his tragic death.: “He was an unbelievable sprinter – maybe the best the state has ever seen. His 300 at the New York Armory was one of the most impressive races I have seen from a high schooler. This is very sad for his family as well as N.J. track and field.
