Students at Linden High School showed solidarity with Ukraine during a demonstration Friday afternoon.
Linden High School Sit-in for UkraineSolomiya Malanyuk reaches for her phone first thing in the morning. She’s not scrolling through Instagram like a typical teenager might be. Instead, she’s nervously checking in on her family living in Ukraine under the siege of war.
Motivated to do something more, she and a group of fellow Ukrainian-American students organized a demonstration in support of peace for Ukraine at their high school Friday afternoon. At 2:23 p.m., symbolizing the date of Feb. 23 when Russia invaded its neighbor, students left their classrooms and stood or sat silently in the hallways.
