Wayne Mayor Chris Vergano has withdrawn his bid to switch the position to a full-time job.

“Withdrawal kills it,” township attorney Matthew Giacobbe told the council before the vote. If the council wants to reconsider making Vergano full-time, it would have to introduce the ordinance all over again, Giacobbe said. As the longtime Republican chairman in Wayne, Vergano appeared likely to gain enough votes on the council, where eight of the nine members are Republican.
