Rain should change to snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning, forecasters say. A second storm could arrive for the weekend.
, but the timing could make for a tricky ride to work and school in the morning, forecasters say.
Precipitation will begin falling as rain late Wednesday or after midnight Thursday before changing to snow from northwest to southeast — around 4 a.m in far northern New Jersey and by 7 a.m. across most of Central Jersey, the weather service says. Most of the snow will drop from about 7 a.m. to noon.
“The latest indications continue to track this low far enough south of the region to spare most of the area significant impacts,” the weather service said in its Wednesday morning forecast discussion. “It should be noted though that there is still some uncertainty with this system and room for it to shift a bit farther north which would spread accumulating snows into the Interstate 95 corridor and also bring higher snow amounts than currently forecast,” according to the National Weather Service.
