Marc Amoresano posted a photo of Anne Frank on Facebook, but revised his post after a backlash.

Marc Amoresano posted a photo on Facebook of Anne Frank, which included the text, “The people who hid Anne Frank were breaking the law. The people who killed Anne Frank were following the law. THE LAW IS NOT A MORAL COMPASS.”

In a statement provided to NJ Advance Media, Amoresano said he posted the “satirical meme” in his capacity as a private citizen, and not as a school board member. But after hearing pushback from some teachers in the district, he said he talked to Superintendent Michael Wasko and board President Patricia Mattia and was asked to remove the image.

Amoresano removed the photo, and posted his initial comment with the following addition: “Just want everyone to know that somehow my clearly anti nazi anti Facism post was mistaken as anti Semitic.” He also said he made the post private, per Wasko’s request. In his statement, he also said “one is hard pressed to suggest that was equating the tragedy and suffering of Anne Frank and those affected by the horrific events of the Holocaust to mask wearing or vaccinations.”
