, told city council Tuesday that the people of Killeen have spoken. Regardless of the legality of marijuana, the ordinance was clear and that the council should respect voters’ decision.
Shirley Fleming, a former Killeen city councilwoman, told the Harker Heights city council that repealing the ordinance could make residents feel like their vote doesn’t matter. The campaign saw the highest level of support in San Marcos, with nearly 82 percent of the votes. Denton voters approved the measure with more than 70 votes.
The proposals are possible because these are home-rule cities — jurisdictions that are able to create ordinances if they are not explicitly forbidden by Texas or federal law.
