Multiple fires have erupted in Calabasas and in Riverside and Kern counties, burning structures and prompting evacuations amid dangerous wind conditions.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department is warning residents near Las Virgenes Road and the 101 freeway to prepare for evacuations as a brush fire in the Calabasas community of Hidden Hills has developed. Also in that area, the Mureau fire at Mureau and Mountain View has grown to five acres and is threatening structures. Aerial footage shows that the fire ignited in the area where the Woolsey fire took place last year.
In Riverside County, the Water fire on the 26000 block of Water Avenue in Riverside, was reported at 7 a.m., and at now 5 acres with 10% containment, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Three outbuildings and two vehicles were destroyed. One hundred and nineteen firefighters were dispatched to fight the blaze amid wind gusts up to 60 mph.
Residents on Water Avenue east of El Nido, Emerett Lane east of El Nido and Orange Avenue east of El Nido are under mandatory evacuation. A “care and reception center” has been opened at Perris High School.In nearby Jurupa Valley, near the intersection of Granite Hill Drive and Pyrite Street, the Hill fire is burning as 20 mph winds sweep through the area as the fire has rapidly grown to about 50 acres.
Mandatory evacuations are in place for Santiago Estates mobile home park, located at 3700 Quartz Canyon Road, and Bravo Estates mobile home park, located at 4080 Pedley Road. The 60 Freeway is closed in both directions in the area. In Kern County, a vegetation fire named the Thief fire is burning near the 30000 block of Cummings Court in the Stallion Springs area. The fire, involving one structure and threatening several homes, is approximately 6 to 8 acres in size, but forward progress has been stopped, according to the Kern County Fire Department.
