The Tuesday evening meeting follows a Commons vote last Wednesday to open a committee probe into allegations Beijing ran an intimidation campaign.

Parliament’s standing committee on procedure and house affairs is set to discuss allegations the Chinese government ran an intimidation campaign against Conservative MP Michael Chong and other politicians.

“This scourge of foreign interference threat activities directed at members of this House is not limited to elections, party nominations or diaspora communities,” Chong said, and called on Parliament to “vindicate its own authority” to protect member interests.that Chong’s parliamentary privileges were breached by the Canadian Security Intelligence Service’s failure to inform him of the alleged intimidation of his family two years earlier.

The fact that a dossier with intelligence about him was circulated around government agencies has raised questions about why no senior government officials saw fit to brief politicians.“It reflects the prime minister as a prime minister who does not see national security as serious and needing attention,” he said.
